Part 1 – Dog-Owner Codex – Dog Parks
Dog parks may seem like doggie paradise at first glance: open space, lots of dogs, social interaction. But what’s meant well often ends up being quite the opposite. Too many dogs, too little structure, and hardly anyone paying attention to how the animals actually feel.
In such situations, dogs are usually overwhelmed. They don’t learn polite communication – in fact, they may pick up some pretty bad habits. Often, they’re left to cope on their own. Particularly sensitive dogs withdraw or just endure it, while others react by barking or showing aggression. None of this is helpful for their everyday life.
Meaningful encounters happen when dogs have space, guidance and security. Distance, a lead and clear commands aren’t limitations – they’re prerequisites for healthy learning. Socialise your dog gradually, choose experienced play partners, and – especially with your first dog – seek professional guidance right from the start.
