Part 4 - Truffle Hunting with Maggi - Getting Rich With Truffles?
The idea of getting rich quickly with truffle hunting persists. The reality is quite different, though. In Switzerland, we most commonly find the Burgundy truffle. It’s highly valued in cooking but does not reach the high market prices of rare varieties such as the White Alba truffle from Italy or the Périgord Truffle from France.
The real attraction isn’t the financial gain but the joy of discovering new locations. While searching known areas is relatively easy, finding new truffle sites is a special challenge – accompanied by an intense sense of happiness for both human and dog.
The main season for Burgundy truffles is from September to November. Switzerland also has Winter Truffles, and Bianchetto Truffles in spring, making truffle hunting possible almost year-round. Burgundy truffles are excellent in pasta dishes or finely grated over other dishes. Numerous other truffle species also exist, including inedible and rare gourmet truffles, which occasionally grow in Switzerland.
